Volunteering and Collaborating with PEEC
|
The establishment of the PEEC Nature Center has been a collaborative effort resulting from the work of many devoted volunteers. Nearly everything we do depends critically on volunteers and collaborations with other organizations. Where do I fit in? Anywhere you'd like to! PEEC has the need for people of many talents. All it takes is an interest in any aspect of the natural world and a willingness to share your interest. The hours and level of commitment for our volunteers varies widely.
Current Listings. PEEC participates in Volunteer Match, a program supported by LANL. Click here to view PEEC's current volunteer listings. Examples of Volunteers NeededStaffing Volunteer You'll open the center to the public, answer guest questions, register people for classes, answer phones, and other light clerical duties. What does it take? Reliability, friendliness, and a willingness to learn about nature displays; time commitment is variable.
Teacher or Speaker Teach a class on your favorite nature-related topic for adults or children. Or give a public lecture. For examples of talks and classes we've had in the past, see Past Programs. Earth Day Planning The Earth Day committee organizes our largest event of the year, the Earth Day Festival, which is held in April. Many forms of help are needed, and greatly appreciated! No special skills required. Teacher's Assistant Assist teachers with children's programs. Handyman, Painter, or Woodworker Assist with various projects, as needed. Gardener Help with weeding and maintenance of flower gardens and grasses. Artist Provide assistance with exhibits, or help with gift shop items. On-call Helper No specific skills needed, just a willingness to help out occasionally with staffing or special events. Exhibit Designer/Builder Create educational displays that have a hands-on element. What does it take? Creativity, inventiveness, research skills, and an ability to teach through displays. Or work with a designer to turn ideas into reality.
