Group Programs

Los Alamos Public School Field Trips

PEEC class

Each year PEEC provides free Field Trips to LAPS classrooms. Students experience nature as young scientists studying soils, plants, habitats and more. All activities are hands-on and meet science standards!

For more information, see LAPS Field Trips or write to Programs@PajaritoEEC.org.

Planning a Trip

Students should bring their own snacks to eat during break and dress appropriately for outdoor activities. Transportation must be arranged and paid for by each school. Some schools are within walking distance.

Nature Discovery Programs for Homeschools

PEEC class

At PEEC our mission is to offer education programs that explore the natural world. Introducing the fascinating wonders, elements, colors and textures of nature to our young scientists is an important part of caring for the future of our planet. Our Nature Discovery Programs are customized for homeschool students and aligned with current studies and science standards, when applicable.

PEEC offers an ideal opportunity to present children with the wonders of the natural world through experiential learning. Our Nature Discovery Program includes interactive exhibits that reveal many of nature's wonders. Displays of local animals and plants - including amphibians, birds, butterflies, and fossils - and our nature trail provides for hands-on discoveries and scientific explorations.

Planning a Trip

Nature Discovery classes are 1.5 hours in length for preschool and kindergarten classes and cost $45. 1st through 6th grade classes are 2 hours and cost $60. Please contact Programs@PajaritoEEC.org or call the PEEC office for more information or to schedule your visit.

Preschool Discovery Programs

At PEEC our mission is to offer education programs that explore the natural world. Introducing the fascinating wonders, elements, colors and textures of nature to our youngest scientists is an important part of caring for the future of our planet. The preschooler's ability to readily grasp new concepts through hands-on learning ensures that our youngest children benefit greatly from early introductions to the natural world.

PEEC offers an ideal opportunity to present preschoolers with the wonders of the natural world through experiential learning. Our 1 hour Preschooler Discovery Program presents students with interactive exhibits that reveal many of nature's wonders. Displays of local animals and plants - including amphibians, birds, butterflies, and fossils - and our nature trail provides for hands-on discoveries and an exploration of the five senses.

Planning a Trip

Preschool Discovery classes are 1 hour in length. The cost for the class is $35. Please contact Programs@PajaritoEEC.org or call the PEEC office for more information or to schedule your visit.

Scouts

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) offers badge programs for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. With a focus on the natural world and the environment, PEEC supports the mission of the scouting to develop confidence, courage and skills.

Brownies

Currently, PEEC offers the following badge programs for Brownies:

  • Watching Wildlife
Brownies will discover the fascinating ways that animals make their homes, how they communicate, and the ways that they change their appearances with the seasons. We will also explore what animals eat and where they find their meals.
  • Eco-Explorer
This badge explores ecology - the study of how plants and animals live together in the environment. We will investigate how to look for signs of wildlife, how to explore nature, animal relationships within a food chain, and how each of us can help wildlife.

Juniors

Currently, PEEC offers the following badge program for Junior Girl Scouts:

  • Earth Connection
Juniors will study the ecology surrounding the nature center at PEEC. We will learn to identify trees, explore the plant life at various levels of the forest, read tree rings, and explore the fascinating adaptations that plants or animals have made in order to survive.
  • Wildlife
Scouts will discover the fundamental elements of wildlife and habitat, including observation, identification and conservation. Each Scout will have a field journal to record information, to sketch, write and record her findings!

Boy Scouts

PEEC also offers programs for Webelos Boy Scouts. These are 1.5 hour guided programs.

  • Naturalist
  • Forester
