For Earth Day 2008, Kinnikinnick Club distributed reusable grocery bags, donated by Smith's Food and Drug, to every elementary school student in Los Alamos. For more information, visit the Plastic Bag page.

"What's Blooming Now?" Goes Online

One of the most popular exhibits at PEEC Nature Center has been the "What's Blooming Now?" exhibit, which shows mounted specimens of currently-blooming native plants. The plants on exhibit are updated every couple of weeks. We now have an online version of this exhibit in the Nature Guides area of this web site. See What's Blooming Now?.

Online Payments

PEEC now accepts online credit card payments for classes, memberships, and donations.

PEEC Offers Something For Everyone

PEEC's home in Los Alamos is uniquely perched between the sun drenched Rio Grande Valley and the deep green coolness of the Jemez Mountains. Low and high elevation ecosystems overlap and result in rich diversity and many opportunities for exploratory learning.

  • Explore interactive exhibits that reveal some of nature’s secrets.
  • See displays of local animals and plants, including amphibians, birds, butterflies, and fossils.
  • Adopt a live animal.
  • Attend a nature talk or hike led by a local expert.
  • Stroll nearby trails while searching for wildlife or clues they left behind. Pick up a trail description at PEEC.
  • Photograph scenic views of nearby Pueblo Canyon.
  • Register your kids for classes or for Kinnikinnick Club.
  • Ask an expert about plants on Tuesdays and Fridays and birds on Wednesdays.
  • See examples of low water use lawns and gardens.
  • Use the herbarium to identify local plants.
  • Drop off ink jet cartridges for recycling.
  • Visit the gift shop for local nature items, including PEEC's own publications about local plants, animals, and trails.

How Is PEEC Supported?

Our primary source of support is the memberships and donations of people like you! PEEC is an independent, citizen-run nature center. Members, donors, and volunteers make PEEC possible.

Become a Member of PEEC!

Besides the rewards of contributing to an effort you believe in, member benefits include discounts on programs and gift store purchases, electronic updates of local natural occurrences and events, and a quarterly newsletter.

PEEC's Mission
