EcoMUVE
EcoMUVE is an exciting new curriculum research project at the Harvard Graduate School of Education that uses immersive virtual environments to teach middle school students about ecosystems and causal patterns. Journey North
Journey North is a global study of wildlife migration and seasonal change. K-12 students share their own field observations with classmates across North America. They track the coming of spring through the migration patterns of monarch butterflies, robins, hummingbirds, whooping cranes, gray whales, bald eagles, and other birds and mammals; the budding of plants; changing sunlight; and other natural events. Find migration maps, pictures, standards-based lesson plans, activities and information to help students make local observations and fit them into a global context. Widely considered a best-practices model for education, Journey North is the nation's premiere "citizen science" project for children. The general public is welcome to participate.

Desert Reef Curriculum for New Mexico
The Desert Reef Educational Project is a classroom curriculum about the unique geological features found in New Mexico and West Texas. This curriculum consists of six lessons plans, accompanied by short videos that will enhance the lessons. The lessons are designed for middle and high school students. All materials are free to educators.

Great activities!

The EPA's curriculum page
The EPA has written lots of curriculum around climate change, energy conservation, recycling, and waste reduction. They offer free activity booklets (you can order up to 30 of each one), online activities and lesson plans, and even CD ROMS of lessons. Interesting handouts include "The Lifecycle of a CD/DVD" and "The Lifecycle of a Cellphone." There is also information about science fair projects, service learning, and starting clubs in schools.

Valles Caldera Science Education
The Valles Caldera has three programs for middle and high school students, as well as the option to design your own research study. The current projects offered are Restoration Monitoring, Fish shocking, and Frog-Call Surveys. PEEC has money to help with field trips to the Valle. Call us for more information.

Hawks Aloft

NMSU Mobile Lab
The mobile lab visits high schools across New Mexico and provides students with the opportunity to use state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and advanced molecular biology techniques. Activities involve techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR amplification, restriction enzyme screening and gel electrophoresis. These activities have been designed to help reach the New Mexico State Department Education Science Standards and Benchmarks for grades 9 - 12 in the life sciences.

NM Wildlife Trunks
The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish offers Wildlife Trunks for you to check out and use in your classroom. Trunks often contain skulls, skeletal parts such as antlers, horns, etc., hides, scat, tracks, videos, children's literature and a Teachers Guide.

Asombro Institute
The Asombro Institute in Las Cruces designs their own science units and kits. These units are called the Schoolyard Desert Discovery Project. While they're developed with the desert in mind, there are plenty of activities that can be done in a Los Alamos schoolyard. The lessons are all hands-on and use your schoolyard as the classroom. This link is to the water module. Kits with all the supplies needed are available from Asombro.
